Prelude: Slayer vs Demitri Maximoff

Slayer vs Demitri 3

Vampires, the bloodsucking creatures of the night. Throughout the centuries, these undead monsters have had many interpretations, from merciless, corpse-like beasts that drain innocent lives without remorse, protectors of humanity willing to slay their own kind, or even protagonists of romance novels. But out of their many reimaginings, one of the most notable is that of the noble, refined gentlemen. And today, we’re going to pit two vampiric combatants of this archetype against each other!

Slayer, the Original Assassin!

And Demitri Maximoff, the lord of Castle Zeltzereich!

I’m Br3ndan5, and it’s my job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!

Let me introduce you to the Assassin’s Guild. For over a century, this syndicate has lurked in the shadows, setting up an international network of killers who have grown in power over time.  Its influence has even managed to worm its way into politics, having allied itself with corrupt military officials and turning America’s presidents into their personal puppets. With a reputation like this, it might come as a surprise that the Guild was originally created with more noble goals in mind.

Established in 1998, the Assassin’s Guild was created thanks to the efforts of Slayer, a gentlemanly vampire who sought to punish those the law couldn’t. Though he initially chose the Guild’s members himself, Slayer’s attention would soon be drawn to Sharon, an immortal woman who he would begin to spend more time with. With his devotion toward the Guild waning, Slayer decided to retire, leaving a young assassin named Zato-1 to take his place.

Some time later, Slayer would run into the Guild while attending a dance party in the kingdom of Calroni. While talking with one of its undercover members, Millia Rage, Slayer would invite her to the balcony to admire the night sky and discuss the pleasures of observing human life, as well as her current situation. After their conversation, Slayer took his leave to dance with Sharon, leaving Millia to continue her mission of assassinating Calroni’s Duke, Dorian Scaburi. Though she wasn’t aware of it, Slayer had chosen to keep an eye on her, reappearing after she had finished her mission.

Believing he was working with the Duke, Millia attempted to fight him, only for Slayer to casually dodge her attacks and end it with one punch.

After defeating her, Slayer questioned why she had killed a good man, pointing out that it contradicted the Guild’s purpose. From Millia, he would learn that the Guild had changed since he’d left, focusing more on obtaining a profit than upholding order. Disgusted by its current state, Slayer responded that such an organization had no right to exist and left, and before leaving, asked Millia if she was satisfied with being a murderer.

Upon returning to the Guild’s headquarters, Slayer informed Zato that the Elder founders weren’t happy with its current direction. Slayer even chimed in with his own thoughts, saying he found the Guild’s choice of targets and their shady methods cowardly. Enraged by his words, Zato attacked him, only to be on the receiving end of one of the worst beatings of his life. No matter what he tried, whether it be his Instant Kill technique or any underhanded tactics he could think of, Slayer either wasn’t affected or proved too fast to hit, and in only three hits, Zato was beaten into submission.

Despite the ease with which Zato had been defeated, Slayer had observed that the man’s soul was radiant and elegant, which left him intrigued. Eager to see where this would lead, Slayer allowed Zato to continue leading the Guild, now interested by the potential it carried under his rule.

Despite his approach with the Guild becoming less hands-on, Slayer continued to observe its dealings, eventually discovering that it had established ties with a secret society known as the Post-War Administration Bureau. Upon looking into the P.W.A.B, he discovered that the group had taken a special interest in people who possessed a high affinity for magic. Seeking to warn the Bureau’s targets, Slayer began traveling around the globe, while also using this opportunity to test the skills of other fighters. During this time, he would learn that Zato had been killed. With his last spark of interest in the Guild now extinguished, Slayer decided that his creation had run its course and returned to its headquarters to officially announce its disbandment.

However, despite being the highest of the Guild’s authorities, not everyone agreed with Slayer’s announcement. One of these members was Venom, student and devout follower of the late Zato-1. Wanting to honor his master’s memory, Venom seized control of the Guild’s remains and appointed himself as its new leader. To truly solidify himself as the organization’s top dog, Venom sought out Slayer and challenged him, but despite his persistence, it was ultimately Slayer who came out on top.

With his goals accomplished and the feeling that he had done everything he desired, Slayer began to consider the idea of retiring. Despite his intent to do so, he couldn’t help but feel somewhat sentimental, finding it difficult to leave behind a world he had grown so attached to. Wanting a final hurrah before taking his leave, Slayer once again began traveling the globe, challenging everyone to fights to remember them by. After his final battle against Potemkin, the student of his longtime rival Gabriel, Slayer finally felt satisfied, seeing Potemkin off by saying that he would leave the world in his hands.

Now returned to his home world of Makai, Slayer enjoyed his retirement, spending his days sipping tea and reading haiku. This tranquility would last until six years later, when Slayer would receive a letter informing him that Zato-1 had been resurrected by the Conclave, a group of sages who had absolute power over international affairs. Intrigued by this, Slayer arrived at the Opera House where Zato was being kept, and after testing his power, he would learn from Zato that his resurrection was merely a test for the Conclave’s true goals: the resurrection of the long-dead Commander Gear, Justice.

Seeking to warn the Illyrian king Ky Kiske, Slayer sent Zato to do further investigating while he, Millia, and Venom began journeying to the kingdom. Unfortunately, their journey would be interrupted by the arrival of Bedman, a comatose hitman who proceeded to utterly demolish the trio, forcing them to retreat.

Feeling humiliated by their loss, the assassins began training in order to take revenge. With help from Zato, they tracked Bedman down to the middle of a desert. The two fought, and during their battle, Bedman’s strength proved enough that he became the first man in centuries to force Slayer into using his full power. For most foes, this would have been certain death, but for Bedman, all it did was convince him to start fighting seriously… at 8% of his full power. Unfortunately, their fight wouldn’t go on for much longer as Millia stepped in seconds later, interrupting them in order to enact the next part of their plan.

With Venom tagging in and taking charge against Bedman, Slayer would spend his time working with Millia and Zato to defend Illyria from the otherworldly Anti-Matter Gears. During this time, he even reunited with his old rival Gabriel to team up against the Gears, with the two old men utterly demolishing the building-sized monsters. Though these actions may have seemed minor, they were instrumental in foiling the plans of the Conclave and their partner, the Universal Will. With the aid of Illyria’s royal family, including Ky and his father-in-law, Sol Badguy, Justice’s revival would be brought to an end, allowing peace to return to the Earth for some time.

Demitri Maximoff

Demitri Maximoff
Height: 6’6″
Weight: 223 lbs
Classification: B+ Demon
First Appearance: Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors (August, 1994)
Theme:

Feats:
-Was once known as an A-Class Demon before losing to Belial Aensland

-Held his own against Pyron and Morrigan
-True Form was able to absorb a weakened Pyron
-Completely unaffected by the human raiders that attempted to slay him and obtain his castle’s treasures
-Managed to obtain an aura that could keep him alive in daylight

Across the land of Romania, there exist rumors of a castle hidden deep within its mountains, one that appears only under the light of a full moon. For centuries, men and women would traverse the mountains in search of this castle, intending to obtain the treasures that lay within and put an end to the monster who owned it. Unfortunately, their attempts would be in vain, and those who weren’t killed would find themselves converted into the loyal servants of the one they sought to kill: the vampiric nobleman Demitri Maximoff.

Born in 1483, Demitri was raised in the demonic realm known as the Makai. From birth, he was given the classification of an A Class Demon, a ranking that was reserved only for the rulers of Makai’s noble families. Of the Makai Seven, Demitri was granted rulership over the world’s vampires, but over time he began to feel discontent and desired more power. Seeking to obtain absolute power over the realm, he challenged Belial, the head of the Aensland clan, but was thoroughly defeated.

As punishment for crimes against Makai and its ruler, Demitri was demoted to a B+ Class Demon, stripping him of his right to lead his family and exiling both him and his castle to the human realm. Now trapped in the world of humans, the injured Demitri would soon recognize a fatal weakness that came with his banishment: sunlight. For the vampires of Makai, sunlight was considered a bane that could drain or even kill them, and in Demitri’s current state, direct exposure to it would destroy him.

In a bid to protect himself, Demitri used his remaining power to create a field around his castle while he regained his strength. For the next 50 years, he would remain in his coffin, slowly regaining his strength over time. The only time he made an exception to this would be under the light of a full moon, where he would step out to feast on humans.

During this time, the citizens of Romania would hear rumors of a mysterious castle only visible during a full moon. Among these rumors included the presence of treasures, which drove many to try and find the castle so they could slay Demitri. Unfortunately, their crosses, holy water, stakes, and garlic had no effect on Demitri, who regarded them as a race of low-class, vulgar beings. To him, the only value they had were as food, as he discovered that their blood, more specifically those from virgin girls, tasted like Makai’s finest wines.

After a century of exile, Demitri would regain enough strength to once again take over Makai, even learning how to create an aura around himself that would protect his body from the sun. Unfortunately, the unexpected arrival of the alien Pyron would throw a wrench into his plans. This alien devourer sought to test his strength against the strongest beings on Earth before consuming it, and he offered to let the Darkstalkers- who he had been particularly interested in- challenge him directly. Seeing this is an opportunity to gain more power, Demitri took up that offer and ultimately defeated him, absorbing Pyron’s power into his own. With this newfound strength, Demitri returned to Makai, intent on challenging Belial once again. Upon arrival, however, he would learn that Belial had died sometime ago, and the throne was currently occupied by his daughter, Morrigan.

With this news, Demitri vowed to defeat Morrigan, seeing her as the only thing standing in his way of obtaining rulership over Makai. Unfortunately, before they could fight, both Demitri and his castle would be teleported into Majigen, a dimension created by fellow Makai Seven member Jedah Dohma. After tracking him down, the two would do battle, with the victor ultimately remaining unknown.

While we’re never given an official answer as to who won, Demitri’s ending shows that after defeating Jedah, he set his sights on Morrigan and challenged her once again. This time, he proved victorious and attempted to savor his triumph by turning her into his servant, but before his powers could corrupt her, Morrigan used her last moments of free will to encase herself in stone. Rather than being angered by this, however, Demitri instead found her defiance amusing. With her body now serving as a decoration in Zeltzereich, Demitri vowed that he would one day reach into her mind and make her his, willing to wait for however long he needed.

  1. Dunno how I haven’t commented on this, this is like, one of my most wanted fights of all time, but regardless, I am totally down to clown with this, and in your hands, I know it’s gonna be amazing. As for roots and bets, both are going to my main man Slayer. While both he and Dimitri have lived for hundreds of years, Slayer’s founded his own Assassin’s Guild and by and large has a better win/loss record, especially since he doesn’t consider going all-out against foes as strong as the Guilty Gear cast most of the time. Likewise, while both he and Dimitri are pretty damn smart individuals, Slayer once again beats him out thanks to Dimitri’s own ego. Stats-wise, in terms of speed it seems pretty even, with both keeping up with characters that capable of interstellar travel, but Slayer takes raw power and durability on account of fighting foes that can collapse multiverses while Dimitri’s at best a galaxy-popper. Unfortunately for Dimitri, he simply lacks any real means of putting down Slayer. His ranged attacks are just gonna piss off Slayer and motivate him to take the fight more seriously, his Midnight Bliss hasn’t been shown to explicitly weaken an opponent, and his True Form won’t be enough to close that big of a gap. Someone must’ve let the sun in, because this time Dimitri’s gonna bite the dust.

  2. Slayer win because he can fight with as sol badguy who can fight with Jack-O she said the backyard is large then is low Multiverse

  3. Going with the crowd and saying Slayer should win this fight hands down.

While Dimitri may have more range along with his blood-sucking abilities and full Makai form providing a good power boost, that’s ultimately all that he has going for him in this match-up. Slayer easily has Dimitri beat in the stat trinity and even outside of that, he still had him beat. He’s far more intelligent and cunning compared to an arrogant snob like Dimitri along with a series of abilities that counter Dimitri’s abilities. Even when Maximoff went all out, that would in turn, cause Slayer to take the fight more seriously which is practically a death sentence for Dimitri.

In the end, Dimitri wasn’t having much of a FANG-tastic time!

    THE WINNER IS SLAYER!

  4. Sorry, it took me a while to leave a prediction gut gonna have to say the lad Slayer.
He generally has the stat advantage over Demitri. Even if stats were equal in a scenario I’d still say Slayer takes this. He’s more the more composed and smarter fighter meaning he’ll have an easy time taking advantage of Demitri’s arrogance. Sure Demitri could drain his health by sucking his blood but Slayer can easily do the same. Demitri has higher stronger forms but then that will lead to Slayer getting more serious in a fight, which is something you don’t want to do.

The only trouble I see Slayer having is getting around Chaos Flare, but a higher speed stat generally helps you with that.

Yeah, Demitri’s chances don’t look very fangtastic here.

  5. I’m gonna have to say Slaver takes it.

The only thing Demitri has is greater speed and better range, which won’t mean much considering that will just make Slayer get serious, which is not good for Demitri in the slightest.

Slayer is stronger, tougher, smarter, and can regenerate. Demitri’s bloodsucking won’t mean much considering Slayer can do the same thing, Midnight Bliss has never been shown to be in instant-win technique, and any damage Demitri could make will just be sealed up as if they never happened.

Seems like Demitri bit more than he could chew.
